In the workshop Re-use of Ceramics: From Fragment to New Object, we will, under the guidance of Polish artist, designer, and ceramicist Dominika Kulczyńska, explore ceramics as a material that carries traces of past use, geological time, and human imperfection.

Ceramics is fired clay—but what happens when we reintroduce it into the creative process? During the workshop, we will combine raw clay, previously fired ceramic fragments, crushed stone, and clay collected from the immediate surroundings. Materials that are often perceived as waste will become the starting point for new forms, surfaces, and meanings.

Through experimentation, participants will reflect on the origin and transformation of materials and create two ceramic objects:

  • a test tile made from crushed fragments and added clay, intended for exploring new surfaces or material compositions,
  • a small sculpture made from reused ceramics or a hybrid of fired pieces and raw clay.

The sculpture may be functional or more symbolic—drawing inspiration from totems, fragments, or artifacts. The workshop is open to artists, designers, makers, and anyone interested in clay, ecology, material reuse, and material memory.

The firing of the works will be carried out by the team of the Glass and Ceramics Lab. The pieces will be fired within one month, after which participants will be able to collect them at the Made in Rog shop.

The workshop will be held in English. No prior experience is required.
