Earth Day 2025: Slovenia’s Self-Sufficiency in Plant-Based Proteins

Slovenia is facing challenges related to non-competitiveness and a low level of self-sufficiency in plant-based proteins, which represents an important opportunity for development. The European strategy "The European Green Deal" encourages Member States to shift towards a diet primarily based on plant-based proteins in order to ensure a sustainable future.

On the occasion of Earth Day, Grashka is bringing together key stakeholders – producers, brand representatives, and the Ministry of Agriculture – who are committed to the development and support of regional production and processing of legumes, both in Slovenia and in foreign markets.

By promoting innovative plant-based protein products, which are already successfully entering the global market, we have the opportunity to strengthen Slovenian agriculture, support legume producers, and improve the level of self-sufficiency. In this way, we can ensure the sustainable production of high-quality proteins for human consumption and increase the resilience of the food system in Slovenia.
