Wood Product Planning Course
28. 10. 2026
A good wooden product does not begin at the saw, but with a well-considered plan. When planning a product, it is important to understand materials, technological processes, construction principles, wood joints and production possibilities.
In the Wood Product Planning Course, we will explore the basics of planning, materials and joints in woodworking. The programme is designed as the first module of the in-house modular course and is intended for wood enthusiasts, designers, architects and hobby woodworkers.
We will learn how to align an idea with the practical knowledge, tools and processes available in woodworking practice. We will learn to think about a product as a whole: from choosing the material and understanding the construction to preparing documentation.
The aim of the course is to gain or expand knowledge of wood composites, wood joints, machine and hand woodworking and to learn the basic rules of product construction.
Programme by session
Session 1: wood composites and their use
We will get to know different wood composites, their use in woodworking and the economy of using them when planning products.
Session 2: wood joints, furniture and ergonomics
We will focus on the basics of wood joints, their function, possible uses and relevance for different products. We will also learn about the basic parts of furniture, fittings and the foundations of furniture ergonomics.
Session 3: construction, sketching and documentation
We will learn the rules of construction, the basics of sketching and how to prepare documentation correctly. Participants will also begin thinking about their own idea and how to develop it into a feasible plan.

About the mentor
The course will be led by Gal Žvab, woodworking engineer and mentor of Center Rog’s Wood Lab. He says he became a happy person the moment he came into contact with wood. Growing up, he was constantly connected with tools, forests and wood. He also passes his knowledge on to younger generations of woodworkers, teaching practical and theoretical subjects at a secondary school. Wood is part of his free time as well, through intarsia, carving and restoration.
