Woodcarving for Beginners
21. 12. 2026
In this beginner’s course, we will explore the basic techniques of hand carving and make a small woodcarving. One of the oldest forms of woodworking, carving allows us to decorate objects and give them a personal touch.
We will begin by getting to know carving tools, different types of wood and safe working practices. We will prepare a wooden blank, draw simple geometric patterns on it and gradually begin carving. Once we have mastered the basic cuts, we will draw and carve a simple motif.
We will learn how to hold tools correctly, recognise the direction of the wood grain and choose suitable wood for each piece. We will explore how different cuts affect the final shape, developing precision, concentration and a feel for form along the way.
No prior knowledge is required. This is the third module of the Woodworking Lab’s in-house programme, focusing on working wood by hand.
Schedule
The programme will take place over three sessions:
- Monday, 7 December 2026, from 17:00 to 20:00
- Monday, 14 December 2026, from 17:00 to 20:00
- Monday, 21 December 2026, from 17:00 to 20:00
