Introduction to Jewelry Enameling Techniques (in Slovenian)
12. 3. 2026
Enameling is one of the oldest and at the same time most enchanting techniques for decorating metal. It was already known in antiquity, and during the Middle Ages it adorned royal jewelry and sacred objects. Today, this technique is experiencing a revival in contemporary artistic jewelry, where metal and glass merge into durable, luminous color surfaces. Join us on a course in which we will learn the basics of enameling and explore the specific characteristics of working with enamel — a fine glass powder that melts at high temperatures and permanently bonds with metal. We will experiment with color, layering, and light effects to create unique wearable pieces. What you will learn:
1st session:
During the first session, we will prepare metal bases for earrings. Using sawing, filing, and grinding techniques, we will shape organic, soft forms that will serve as the foundation for enameling.
2nd session:
The second session will be dedicated to the enameling process. You will learn how to properly prepare enamel and apply it to metal. We will apply up to seven layers of enamel to the jewelry, creating rich color depth and an intense, glossy finish. For a special shimmer, we will incorporate silver leaf, giving each piece a unique character.
3rd session:
At the final session, we will assemble the enameled elements into colorful, wearable earrings and enhance them with shiny metal components. The result will be unique, handcrafted jewelry that brings together tradition, contemporary design, and personal expression.

About the mentor
The first session – earring making – will be led by the Jewelry Lab mentors. The enameling process in the second session will be led by Maja Orehar, a graduate economist who, after twenty years in the business world, embarked on an independent design path. She further trained in porcelain product making and completed the Tine Mežek School of Goldsmithing. Her passion is colorful enameled jewelry, where she enjoys exploring and combining different techniques and materials. Her work is characterized by lace-like structures, vibrant colors, and subtle contrasts, creating recognizable and unique pieces.
