Training: Lathe (Wood)

Turning is a process in which angular workpieces are shaped into round, cylindrical, or conical forms.

In this training, you will learn how to properly and safely turn solid wood. You will discover how to prepare materials for turning, how to correctly adjust the individual parts of the lathe, and how to secure materials safely using various methods.

You will become familiar with three different turning techniques:

• Spindle turning, used to shape cylindrical objects such as furniture legs, handles, and pens.
• Faceplate turning, which allows you to create bowls, containers, vases, and lampshades.
• Copy turning, enabling precise replication of existing pieces or designs using a template.

During the training, you will also have the opportunity to practice turning yourself, preparing you for independent work on the lathe.

The training will be led by Gal Žvab, a mentor in the wood lab.

Participants should gather 15 minutes before the scheduled time in the entrance hall of Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers provided, as instructed by the mentor. Do not arrive late, as this disrupts the workflow. In case of delay, we unfortunately cannot guarantee entry into the lab.

The program is conducted in Slovenian, unless stated otherwise.

If the workshop is canceled, you will be notified two days in advance.

If you are unable to attend, fees are non-refundable, and rescheduling is not possible. However, you may transfer your spot to another person – please inform us at least 24 hours before the workshop via email at les@center-rog.si.
