Training: Screen Printing (in Slovenian)
31. 3. 2026
The training at the screen printing station is intended to teach the safe and correct use of two spaces in the textile lab: the darkroom (2nd floor of the building) and the textile workshop (ground floor of the textile lab). To ensure participants fully master the use of both spaces, the training lasts 4 hours and is divided into the following two modules:
Module 1:
Participants are introduced to the theoretical part of screen printing (how screen printing works, how screens are exposed, and how they are used for printing). They learn about examples of well- and poorly-prepared graphics for screen development and, after reviewing the graphics, draw their own motif on tracing paper using a black marker.
Module 2:
Theoretical is followed by the practical part of the training. In the darkroom, participants coat the screens with photosensitive emulsion and leave them to dry. This is followed by exposing the screens using their own graphics. The screens are then washed out so the motif opens up, dried, and taken to the textile workshop, where test prints are made.
After use, the exposed screens are washed out. Those who wish may purchase their own screen at the Made in Rog shop and take it with them after the training.
What do I get in the lab?
The lab provides an A4-size screen, photosensitive emulsion, tracing paper, and printing inks.
What should I bring with me?
Bring a textile item you wish to print on (maximum of two items) and plenty of creativity.
For independent work in the lab
Screen printing is a versatile printing technique suitable for textiles, paper, and other flat surfaces. It can be used to decorate finished flat products (T-shirts, sweatshirts, etc.) or semi-finished materials (printing on fabric, wallpaper paper, etc.). When printing on different substrates, it is essential to use the appropriate printing inks.
In our textile lab, the following screens are available to users:
Aluminum screens:
- 32 × 52 cm (4 pcs)
- 52 × 72 cm (4 pcs)
- 62 × 92 cm (2 pcs)
Wooden screens:
- A3 format (5 pcs)
- A4 format (5 pcs)
Users may also expose and use their own screens.
How does work at the screen printing station take place?
The user coats an open screen with photosensitive emulsion and leaves it to dry thoroughly (at least 4 hours, preferably overnight). The work must be carried out in low light or under red light, as the emulsion is light-sensitive. A well-prepared pattern matrix (as dark a black print as possible on tracing paper) is used to expose the image onto the screen on a vacuum exposure table. The exposed screen is then washed out, dried, and printing can begin.
Work in the textile workshop focuses on organizing the work surface (printing table), print quality, economical use of printing ink, drying of prints, and tidying up and cleaning the workstation.
Training is suitable for participants aged 14 or older.
***
Participants should gather 15 minutes before the scheduled start time in the entrance hall of Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers, which the mentor will show you. Please be on time, as late arrivals disrupt the workflow. In the case of a delay, entry to the lab cannot be guaranteed.
The program will be conducted in Slovenian unless stated otherwise.
The program is intended for participants older than 14 years, except where noted otherwise.
In case of cancellation, you will be notified two days before the scheduled start.
If you are unable to attend the program, the registration fee is non-refundable, and it is not possible to change the date. You can transfer your participation to another person, but please notify us at least 24 hours before the program begins at the email address: tekstil@center-rog.si
We look forward to your company and creative collaboration.
