You are invited to a preparatory workshop in FabLab, where we will jointly design and create a large modular chess game, which will be installed on 6 June 2026 in Park izbrisanih as part of Neighbour’s Day. In the workshop, we will explore digital fabrication and collaborative design, while creating a practical, interactive object for the wider Center Rog community.

The large chess set will consist of a 3 m × 3 m chessboard made from commercially available interlocking EVA foam tiles in black and white, a set of chess pieces made from 10 mm EVA foam designed and laser-cut by participants, and a digitally fabricated wooden storage box for easy organisation and storage of all pieces.

Across four sessions we will:

  • design the shape and concept of the chess pieces
  • create prototypes
  • laser-cut the pieces
  • test and assemble the complete chess set

If you attend at least three sessions, you will also receive training on the laser cutter, enabling you to use this workstation independently in the FabLab.

Session dates:

  • Wednesday, 13 May 2026, 17:00–20:00
  • Wednesday, 20 May 2026, 17:00–20:00
  • Wednesday, 27 May 2026, 17:00–20:00
  • Wednesday, 3 June 2026, 17:00–20:00

Join us and help prepare this year’s Neighbour’s Day, the celebration of the Center Rog neighbourhood.
