Crocheted Sculptures: Co-creating and Connecting through Art
27. 6. 2024
A free, participatory crochet event with Icelandic textile artist Halla Armanns.
You are invited to experimental sculpture crocheting with Icelandic textile designer Halla Armanns, who we are hosting at the Rog Center as part of a one-week residency. The workshop is part of the accompanying program of the Oloop collective's retrospective exhibition.
The workshop will begin with instructions on a simple crochet technique to create the base of the sculpture and encourage the use of various colors. After forming the base, participants can enhance the sculpture by "drawing" with thread or adding further crocheted elements to introduce additional spatial aspects. The goal of this process is to unite individual creativity into a cohesive artistic expression.
The workshop is intended for teenagers and adults. A minimal basic knowledge of crochet is recommended, but this should not be a barrier. You can join the workshop at any time within the proposed timeframe and leave whenever you wish. Every contribution counts.
Halla Armanns is a knitwear designer and textile artist who graduated from the London College of Fashion in 2021. She currently lives in Iceland, where she actively contributes to the local design scene and showcases her work at events such as Design March, Handverk og Hönnun, and Knitfest in Blönduos. Her designs reflect her personal experiences, heritage, and environment, allowing her to communicate as a contemporary storyteller. Halla is rooted in the values and respect for craftsmanship, placing great emphasis on the tradition of hand knitting. She is known for using traditional techniques to create innovative and individual pieces.
The workshop is free of charge; however, registration is recommended for easier coordination.
The O2OOP exhibition and accompanying events were created in co-production with the Rog Center and the Biennial of Textile Art BIEN (Zavod Carnica) and with financial support from the Municipality of Ljubljana (MOL) and the ACF Program (in Slovenia 2014-2021).
