Creative Course: Solid Wood Stool

The course aims to spread knowledge of old crafts that are disappearing in modern times. We will learn firsthand how to create a beautiful wooden stool from a raw piece of wood.

Duration: 6 sessions, each lasting 4 hours

Modules and Activities:

1st session:

• Introductory lecture on solid wood and its characteristics.
• Introduction to different tree species and processes such as felling, cutting, drying, and storing wood.
• Introduction to hand and power tools for wood processing and overview of traditional woodworking techniques.

2nd and 3rd sessions:

• Detailed discussion of various wood joining techniques.
• Making furniture joints and joining solid wood.
• Learning to use and safely handle hand woodworking tools, including various types of hand saws, chisels, and wooden mallets.

4th, 5th, and 6th sessions:

• Independent creation of a stool from selected solid wood (spruce, walnut, cherry).
• Learning about drawing plans in a 1:1 scale, transferring the drawing of wood joints to the material, and handcrafting the stool.
• Final finishing of the stool, including coating or protection with natural oil/wax.

About the mentor:

Dejan Pfeifer is an experienced designer and carpenter who, under the brandStudio DREVO, specializes in making furniture from solid wood.

What will I take home:

• A wooden stool made of solid wood.
• Knowledge about types of wood and the manufacturing process from drawing plans to the final product, including new information about solid wood, tree felling and cutting, and drying and storing.

Participants should meet 15 minutes before the agreed time in the entrance hall of the Center Rog. Please, before the start of the program, put your personal belongings in the locker rooms. Do not be late for the program. In case of delay, entry is not guaranteed - once the creative process begins, it is no longer possible to join in!

The workshop will be conducted with a minimum of 3 registrations. In case of cancellation, you will be notified no later than two days before the start of the program.

Registration fees for workshops are non-refundable, and it is not possible to change the date. However, participation can be transferred to another person; please inform us at least 24 hours before the start via email at les@center-rog.si.
