Center Rog hosts the Vulca maker community seminar.
The sixth Vulca network seminar, connecting makers and creatives from various FabLabs and makerspaces across Europe, aims as a non-profit organization to foster international connectivity and encourage the exchange of ideas and approaches among creators. This year's seminar, dedicated to "Learning Networks," will comprise a diverse range of activities, from practical workshops to professional roundtables.
Thursday, November 23rd After a guided tour of the new Center Rog at 3 PM, there will be an official opening of the seminar. Attendees will be welcomed by Renata Zamida, Director of Center Rog, and Alex Rousselet, founder of the Vulca network, followed by a social event in the form of an Escape Room game, leading participants through 33 challenges to a special location in the city with a surprise.
Friday, November 24th In the morning, we will focus on serious topics with two roundtables:
- The roundtable "Library and Maker Spaces" will be moderated by Rasmus Fangel Vestaard, librarian and project manager at the Copenhagen Library. He will discuss this with industrial engineer Maik Jähnej, FabLab manager at Polje Library Matej Štendler, and Manager of Rog Library Tamara Hozjan.
- The roundtable "University and Maker Spaces," moderated by the Director of Strategic Development and Programmes at Center Rog Meta Štular, will feature Center Rog's project manager Alja Fir, founder of FabLab Leuven Lambaerts Marc, and industrial designer at professor at Academy of Fine Arts Rok Kuhar.
Concurrently, other activities will take place, including a working group on the growth of biolabs led by Rafael Calado (BioLab Lisboa), and a working group on sustainable principles and maker tools led by Sandra Mamitzsch (Gig – Global Innovation Gathering).
We will continue with participant presentations in the form of quick speeches about their fablabs, makerspaces, and creative spaces. The second day will conclude with three working groups:
- Learning Networks; led by Matei Gheorghui (Laboratorie Cerrev Université de Caen Normandie).
- Development of Vulca's role in collaboration with the EU; led by Alex Rousselet (Vulca).
- Development and management of the Vulca platform; led by Thomas Sanz (Vulca).
Saturday, November 25th The last day of the seminar will be dedicated to roundtables on Communities and Makerspaces, and Enhancing Innovation and Product Certification. At the same time, working groups will run on FabSchools, led by Andrea Rocha (Polytechnic of Lisbon – FabLab Benfica), and Maker Mechanization through AI Content Leadership, led by Nicolas de Barquin (Open Fab).
The day will end with participant presentations and two more working groups:
- (p)hp Maker Tour – about a new platform, to be presented by Hans-Peter (HP).
- Vulca – GIG Residency, led by Fadia Elgharib, with the collaboration of Aleksandra Šljukić (Vulca).
Enhancing the event will be three challenges for makers, tackled together with lab leaders and mentors from Center Rog. Together, we will create:
- A scale for calculating and counting small materials.
- A lacrimal tool and equipment for texturizing metal.
- A plan for a stand for presenting and selling products.
The event concludes on Sunday, November 26th, with a shared brunch and an exchange of impressions about the seminar.
