Scientific Café: 3D Printing – Expectations and Reality

On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 6:00 PM, you are kindly invited to the Rog Center, to the Specialka café, which will transform into a Scientific Café for this occasion. The discussion will focus on additive technologies and 3D printing.
Did you know that with 3D printing, you can build a house in less than 24 hours? Or that this technology is being used to create artificial coral reefs, and 3D-printed artificial beaks for eagles and paws for dogs?
3D printing is a process that has revolutionized manufacturing. An object, previously designed using a computer, is gradually built up by 3D printers layer by layer into the final product. This process can utilize various materials, ranging from plastic and metal to clay and even biomaterials.
Additive technologies, such as 3D printing, certainly offer a range of possibilities. But what are the high expectations, and what is the reality?
At the Scientific Café, we will avoid excessive technical jargon and focus on the possibilities that 3D printing opens up for everyday life. We will try to answer questions like: how can 3D printing impact wider society? How will it transform fields such as construction, engineering, medicine, and even culinary arts?
Experts will share their experiences:
- Edvard Goverkar (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, UL)
- Deja Muck (Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, UL)
- Barbara Wilkesmann (Chemetz)
- Aljoša Šajna (Building Institute)
- Joško Valentinčič (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, UL)
We invite you to join us.
