Basketry Course: Make a Basket

In this course, we will explore basketry and make a basket from hazel splints. We will follow the process from selecting wood in the forest and storing and preparing it to weaving a finished object.

The first session introduces the history of Slovenian basketry, examples, tools, materials and preparation. In the second, we will make hazel splints. In the third, we will prepare the wooden base by cutting, drilling and sanding. In the final session, we will weave and finish the basket.

The programme is for people interested in natural materials, designers, craftspeople and anyone drawn to traditional skills and practical work. No prior knowledge is required. Minimum age: 14. You can take your finished basket home and use your new skills for further projects.
