In collaboration with Studio Draž, the Textile Lab at Center Rog is organizing a Jacquard weaving course on the digital knitting machine Kniterate.

The Kniterate knitting machine is a compact, home-sized version of an industrial knitting machine, offering a wide range of techniques and an intuitive software program for creating patterns. It also allows importing photographs.

In the course, you will explore the entire process – from the first idea, designing Jacquard patterns, knitting, experimenting with textures, sewing and cutting, to presenting your finished piece at a pop-up event.

The program includes six group sessions of four hours each, plus additional individual sessions on the Kniterate machine. A wide selection of materials in different compositions and colors will be available. After consulting with the mentors, you may also bring your own yarn, provided it is suitable for machine use.

A personal laptop is required for work.

What are Jacquard patterns?
Jacquard patterns are multicolored, complex motifs created by carefully lifting individual threads during weaving or knitting. They are named after Joseph Marie Jacquard, whose invention of a special loom is considered one of the first steps toward automating textile production and a precursor to computer programming, as the looms operated with punched cards.
