Course on Making a Unique Lamp
5. 2. 2025
Join us for a hands-on course in making a unique lamp and gain skills from 3 labs!
Under the guidance of experienced mentors from the metalworking, woodworking, and FabLab, we will create a one-of-a-kind free-standing lamp, covering the entire process from start to finish. You will learn the basics of metalworking, which will serve as the main structure of your lamp, 3D modeling techniques to create the lamp's head, and woodworking for a stable and aesthetic base. In addition, through practical learning, we will master the skills of connecting and assembling all the main components into the final product. This course is perfect for those who want to gain a comprehensive insight into the creative process of designing a lamp using various materials and technologies while acquiring valuable knowledge in metalworking, woodworking, and digital fabrication.
- What will we learn?
In FabLab, we will first model a custom lampshade using the Onshape software. The drawn model will be 3D printed. We will also teach you how to create the lamp's electrical wiring, including the switch and electrical cable, which will be integrated into the final product.
In the Metal lab, we will create the lamp's metal frame. We will cut pipes into two dimensions, cut iron and thick flat iron, drill holes into it, and then grind everything smooth. Finally, we will weld all elements together and clean the final product.
In the Wood lab, we will explore the entire process of working with solid wood, from log to finished product. First, we will cut the log into strips on the circular saw, smooth them, and glue them into a board. Then, we will cut the glued board into a circle or any other desired shape. The base will be finely sanded and protected with a natural wood finish.
