Thai cuisine (in Slovenian)
21. 5. 2026
At the workshop, we will embark on a culinary journey to Thailand — the land of smiles, where sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavours blend in perfect balance. We will discover why Thai cuisine is considered one of the most aromatic and diverse in the world, and how important fresh ingredients, herbs, and spices such as lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime, and chilli are.
We will explore the basics of Thai cuisine and learn how to prepare key pastes and dishes that form the foundation of many traditional recipes. A defining feature of Thai cooking is that dishes are often prepared quickly, yet with great attention to balancing flavours and textures — something we will experience ourselves.
During the workshop, we will:
- learn about characteristic ingredients of Thai cuisine and their use;
- prepare basic chilli pastes: red, green, and Tom Yum;
- wrap fresh summer rolls and make peanut sauce;
- cook the popular pad thai;
- prepare aromatic Massaman curry;
- make the traditional dessert mango sticky rice.
The workshop will also be suitable for vegans, as all dishes will be plant-based. It is not suitable for people with nut allergies.
At the end, we will taste the prepared dishes together, explore new flavour combinations, and take home the knowledge to recreate an authentic Thai culinary experience.
About the mentor
The workshop will be led by Lea Mavec, mentor in the Food Lab. She learned Thai cooking during a two-month stay in Thailand, where she attended two culinary schools. She specializes in plant-based cuisine and adapting menus for people with allergies and other health conditions.
