Fruit Tray

In this workshop, we will learn the basics of metalworking and, in the end, create a functional object – a fruit tray.

We will be introduced to hand tools and machines for metalworking, such as a hydraulic press, column drill, angle grinder, welding machine, and sandblasting chamber.

We will start by using an A4-sized iron sheet to create a semi-circular tray shape with a hydraulic press and (improvised) mold. Next, we will create legs and a base for the tray. We will drill holes in the corners of the sheet beforehand. We will bend rebar into two "C" shapes for the tray legs using a vice. The legs that peek through the tray holes will be welded at the bottom. After creating the tray, we will further decorate it according to personal preferences (with dots, engraved patterns using chisels, drilled holes, rough/fine grinding, edge treatment, spraying, etc.).

This workshop is for anyone who wants to acquire basic knowledge in sheet metal bending, rebar bending, drilling, welding, and learn about final metal shaping techniques while enjoying the improvisation process for decorating their tray.

Prerequisites:

Basic "technical literacy" is preferred, with no fear of using hand and power tools.

About the mentor:

The workshop will be led by Tomaž Čeligoj, a mentor at the metalworking lab.

Participants should gather 15 minutes before the scheduled start time in the entrance hall of Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the locker provided by the mentor. Please do not be late, as this disrupts the working process. In case of delay, we cannot guarantee entry into the lab.

The program will be conducted in Slovenian, unless otherwise noted.

If there is a cancellation, we will inform you two days before the scheduled start.

If you are unable to attend, the fee is non-refundable, and rescheduling is not possible. You may transfer your participation to another person, and we kindly ask you to inform us at least 24 hours before the start by email: kovina@center-rog.si.
