Do you make jewellery, small textile pieces, ceramics or other unique gifts, and are looking for original, ecological and beautifully designed packaging?

In this workshop, we will explore the basics of origami engineering – folding paper without cutting or gluing – and create sturdy, functional and visually refined paper boxes. We will learn how to choose suitable paper, understand different weights and textures, and adapt the dimensions of origami packaging to the size of our own products.

The workshop is suitable for makers, craftspeople, designers and anyone who enjoys working with their hands. It is especially useful for those who want to present smaller products or gifts in packaging that is not only practical, but also adds a sustainable and personal touch.

In the practical part, we will fold different types of packaging:

  • a masu box with a matching lid, a classic square origami box,
  • a modular case or envelope for smaller or flat objects,
  • and, if time allows, an eight-part modular box.

We will use high-quality papers of different weights, from 120 to 150 gsm, with an emphasis on sustainable, recycled and certified materials in neutral and aesthetic tones that complement unique products.

You will take home a selection of handmade paper boxes and the knowledge to adapt origami packaging to your own products, gifts or future creative projects.

No prior knowledge of origami is required.

About the mentor

The workshop is led by Nataša Brunec, the maker behind Ars Origami, who has been working for 12 years in original origami installations, decorative paper objects, jewellery and the development of functional paper-based products. She has also gained extensive experience leading workshops across Slovenia (Dan Japonske, Mreža splošnih knjižnic, Mala ulica, Društvo gluhih in naglušnih, Galererija Lučka & Avgust ...), connecting the tradition of origami with contemporary design and sustainable materials.
