In conjunction with the O2OOP exhibition, we invite you to the presentation of the Community Embroidery, which is on display as part of the exhibition. This piece was created during a social activation project through textile handicrafts and textile cultural heritage. Participating women, immigrants with international protection from Ukraine and Turkey, will share their personal stories about the intimate design process and the resulting compositions of machine-embroidered pieces, inspired by their cultural heritage and memories of their homeland and people.

The Community Embroidery was created within the framework of the Migrantour: Paths and Ties project, in collaboration with the Terra Vera association and under the mentorship of Tjaša Bavcon and Katja Burger Kovič, who will lead and coordinate the event. Students from the Textile and Clothing Design program at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering will also participate in the discussion on modern interpretations of traditional embroidery and possibilities for creative intercultural connections between young students and vulnerable groups of women.

The Oloop collective is active in various fields of visual creation—from product and spatial design to participatory and socially engaged practices. They are recognized for their inclusive, co-creative, and collaborative practices aimed at opening the creative process to anonymous individuals, groups, and communities who wish to participate. The goal of their creation is not only the production itself but also leading empowering creative processes through which participants gain new knowledge and skills. The resulting products are expressions of co-creation, intertwining various practices and personal internal processes.

The event is free of charge, intended for the general public and students. We recommend registration for easier coordination.

The event is part of the KOTO: SUSTAINABILITY project, co-financed by the HUD fund of the University of Ljubljana, as part of the Call for Increasing the Impact of Research on Society.

The O2OOP exhibition and accompanying events were created in co-production with the Rog Center and the Biennial of Textile Art BIEN (Zavod Carnica) and with financial support from the Municipality of Ljubljana (MOL) and the ACF Program (in Slovenia 2014-2021).
