Decorations made from biomaterials

Join a fun and creative workshop where we will explore the world of bioplastics and create unique holiday decorations! In this workshop, we will learn the basics of polymers and how we can make bioplastics using natural ingredients such as gelatin and agar. Children will have the opportunity to experiment with different recipes to make bioplastics at home and use various shaping techniques to create their holiday decorations. Each participant will take home some of their creations.

The workshop is intended for children aged 9 to 15 who want to create more sustainable decorations for the holiday season, while also learning something new about materials.

About the mentors:

The workshop will be led by mentors from the Green Lab.

Sašo Jakob is a biochemistry student interested in exploring the intersections of science and design in all its forms.

Maruša Ramšak is a biotechnologist who researched synthetic biology at the National Institute of Chemistry. She loves nature, enjoys gardening, and is passionate about all things fermented. She is fascinated by the behavior of different organisms and how they can contribute to sustainable development and solving challenges in environmental conservation, green technologies, and food security.

Participants should gather 15 minutes before the scheduled start time in the entrance hall of the Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers, which the mentor will show you. Please be on time, as late arrivals disrupt the workflow. In the case of a delay, entry to the lab cannot be guaranteed.

The program will be conducted in Slovenian unless otherwise stated.

In case of cancellation, you will be notified two days before the scheduled start. If you are unable to attend the program, the registration fee is non-refundable, and it is not possible to change the date.
