Advanced Sewing Course: shirt or shirt dress

This course is intended for everyone who already has some sewing experience and would like to upgrade their skills by making a shirt or shirt dress. In the course, we will deepen our knowledge of sewing and pattern cutting, and explore more advanced techniques used in shirtmaking.

Participants should have advanced sewing skills, an understanding of patterns and the ability to use a sewing machine independently. During the course, we will focus on precise assembly of pattern pieces, sewing a collar with a stand, making a sleeve placket and finishing the curved hem of a shirt.

A special feature of this course is that, instead of using an overlock machine to finish the seams, we can also use a French seam, a technique often used in fine shirts. This is a more demanding method that requires greater precision and leaves less room for error, making the course suitable for those who want to take a step beyond basic sewing.

Guidelines for buying materials
Material for the shirt can be provided during the course — white or light pink shirting cotton will be available — or you can buy your own fabric. If you decide to buy the fabric yourself, please follow these guidelines:

• the fabric should be 100% shirting cotton or poplin;
• it should contain no elastane;
• quantity: sleeve length + shirt length;
• wash the fabric in advance to prevent later shrinkage.

Time: 16:00–20:00

The course is intended for participants aged 14 and above. By attending the course, you will also complete the training for the sewing station.

About the mentors
The programme is led by mentors from the Textile Lab.

Participants meet 15 minutes before the start of the programme in the entrance hall of Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers indicated by the mentors. Do not be late, as this disrupts the working process. In case of late arrival, we unfortunately cannot guarantee entry to the lab.

The programme is held in Slovenian, unless stated otherwise.

The programme is intended for participants over the age of 14, unless stated otherwise.

In case of cancellation, we will notify you two days before the planned start.

If you are unable to attend the programme, the fee is non-refundable, and the date cannot be changed. You may transfer your participation to another person, provided you notify us at least 24 hours before the start at tekstil@center-rog.si.
