Mini quilting course
9. 5. 2024
Quilting is primarily known in our country as a method of making patchwork blankets, but in our mini course, we will explore its modern version. We will create a maxi quilted cushion with a contemporary geometric pattern - a great addition for cozying up on the couch or lounging comfortably in the garden.
Through the creation of the quilting cushion, we will learn how to design and assemble modern geometric motifs in fabric, make a quilt sandwich, quilt, assemble, and sew elements into a useful sewing product.
The course is intended for adults and young people who want to learn quilting techniques and create a neat and useful maxi cushion for sitting in the garden or park.
Duration: 2 sessions of 4 hours each
- Wednesday, May 8th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
- Thursday, May 9th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
What will we learn:
- During the first session, we will create a geometric pattern using one of the basic elements - the triangle in a square. Each participant will be able to assemble their version of the pattern from the created elements. We will prepare a quilt sandwich for quilting.
- In the second session, we will quilt the front of the cushion using a special double-feed foot. Using the envelope method, we will make the back of the cushion, and sew all the elements into the final product.
Prerequisites:
YES, the course is intended for adults with basic sewing knowledge on any (e.g., household) sewing machine.
Is the workshop considered training?
YES, by participating in the workshop, you will complete training for the sewing workstation (valued at €30 for members/€40 for non-members), and next time you will be able to use this workstation independently during open sessions.
About the Instructors:
The course will be led by mentors Ula Kovačič Kokalj and Barbara Logar, who are modern textile creators and designers. In their design Studio Lunapark, among other things, they create the Designed to Quilt brand, through which they explore modern approaches to this otherwise traditional textile design technique. You can find inspiration before the course on their website: https://designedtoquilt.com/
