Manufacturing material from fungal mycelium
10. 4. 2024
The workshop on fungal biotechnologies and circular bioeconomy is a demonstration and hands-on workshop on the processes involved in creating new materials from fungi. We will focus on mycelium, which can grow into a dense network and bind organic matter such as agricultural waste or sawdust, forming a strong, lightweight, and fire-resistant material.
The goal of the three sessions is a practical, interactive workshop that provides participants with a fun and informative experience and helps them understand the principles of fungal biotechnology and circular economy.
During the workshop, we will learn how to prepare a nutrient medium for multiplying mycelium and how to inoculate the medium and prepare a substrate for growing fungi.
The workshop will be led by Dr. Davor Kržišnik from the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana, who is an expert in forestry with extensive pedagogical and research experience. His research focuses on the development and testing of new biomaterials contributing to the goals of sustainable development.
The workshop sessions will be held on Wednesdays:
- March 27,
- April 3,
- and April 10
from 5 to 8 p.m.
Participants should gather 5 minutes before the agreed-upon time in the entrance hall of Center Rog.
The workshop will proceed with a minimum of 5 registrations. In case of cancellation, participants will be notified no later than two days before the program's start.
Registration fees for our program are non-refundable, and rescheduling is not possible. However, participation can be transferred to another person by informing us at least 24 hours before the start via email at zeleni@center-rog.si.
