Lecture: Contemporary design innovations in ceramic food utensils along the Silk Road

On Tuesday, May 6th at 10:00, we will host Menglei, a professor and ceramic designer from China. In her lecture she will present her research of the transformation of ceramic food utensils along the Silk Road, focusing on their design and cultural significance across various ethnic groups and regions. Through extensive data analysis and historical research, Prof. Menglei reveals how these utensils evolved and how they continue to inspire contemporary artistic practices and product design today.

The lecture will be in the University of Ljubljana classroom – 2nd floor.

The lecture is organized in collaboration with Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Department for Industrial Design and Applied Arts.

• About the lecturer:

Prof. Dr. Menglei holds a PhD in Art from Jingdezhen Ceramic University, China, and has developed her academic and creative career between China and the United States. Her practice focuses on ceramic creation as well as on the innovative reinterpretation of traditional ceramic culture through contemporary design approaches. She has conducted comparative studies of modern ceramics, explored design methodologies, and contributed to the revival of traditional craft knowledge through contemporary applications. Prof. Menglei is the author of numerous academic publications and the lead researcher on various projects dedicated to preserving and reimagining traditional ceramic skills.
