Indian relief printing is an ancient textile technique preserved for over 2,000 years in the Indian province of Rajasthan, passed down from generation to generation. In this technique, a carefully carved relief motif is printed onto fabric using wooden blocks, often in repeating patterns and multiple colors. Traditionally, natural dyes are used for this type of printing, which we will also follow in our workshop at the textile lab.

During the two-day workshop, we will print two textile placemats and a table runner, which will beautifully enhance any dining table. Participants will become familiar with the characteristics of individual dyes, how to properly align relief patterns for uniform repetition, and other tricks and secrets known to Indian printers for centuries.

Duration: 2 sessions of 4 hours each

  • Wednesday, May 15th, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm
  • Thursday, May 16th, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Join us at the workshop and create your own oriental table textile for special occasions or daily use. The workshop is intended for adults who want to learn the technique of hand printing on fabric, discover traditional Indian printing patterns, and natural dyes.

The workshop will be led by Indian artist and designer Rutika T Jain as part of her residency at the Center Rog. Rutika combines traditional textile techniques with modern principles of living and interior design. Her extensive experience and passion for design led her to establish her textile brand, IKKA Home, through which she offers textile products that exceed the standards of interior design.
