Handbag from marsh grass
23. 8. 2024
Weaving durable and eco-friendly handbags from marsh grass has a long tradition, as ancient civilizations already crafted them. Today, in regions where invasive marsh grass has overgrown, weaving handbags has an additional ecological benefit, as it helps remove the marsh grass from the environment, and the natural material doesn’t end up in a landfill.
We will also learn how to weave marsh grass handbags in the workshop at Rog Center. First, we will start by dyeing linen fabric with natural dyes, which will be used as the lining of the handbag. Then, we will weave strips of marsh grass and sew them into the final shape – a beautiful handbag. We will use a 3D-printed "last" to assist with the process. At the end, we will decorate the handbag with buttons and add handles or straps to make it truly unique.
