Growing superfoods - spirulina from your home kitchen
29. 2. 2024

Spirulina is a blue-green microalgae that is a superfood and one of the most nutrient-dense foods on Earth. It thrives naturally in warm freshwater lakes, but it can also be cultivated.
In the Green Lab workshop, we will use simple materials such as a recycled vase to create a bioreactor with a container, air supply, and light to grow this beneficial algae and also prepare the optimal medium to allow it to grow healthily. At the end of the workshop, the participants will take the device home so that they can grow spirulina in their own kitchen.
Part of the workshop will also be dedicated to the home care of spirulina, and we will also touch on ideas on how to incorporate spirulina into everyday meals to take advantage of its nutritional potential.
The workshop is aimed at adults interested in growing their own food, exploring microalgae, and innovative approaches to food production.
It will be led by Maruša Ramšak, a biotechnologist and head of the green lab at the Rog Centre, and Zelimkhan Suleymanov, a mentor who is also involved in microgreening and mycelium cultivation.
The workshop will be held 5 minutes before the agreed time in the entrance hall of the Rog Center.
The workshop will be held with a minimum of five registrations. In the event of no-shows, you will be informed at least two days before the start of the programme.
No refunds of registration fees are possible, nor can the date be changed. Participation can be transferred to another person; please inform us at least 24 hours before the start by email: zeleni@center-rog.si.
