In the wood lab workshop, we will create a two-player board game Quarto from wood, consisting of a game board with 16 squares and two sets of eight playing pieces.

It is a strategic version of the game Connect Four. Each of the pieces placed on the board has four different characteristics. The goal of the game is to line up four pieces that share one of the four characteristics.

The wooden board will be cut into a desired shape, and 16 squares will be attached to it. Pre-prepared solid wood slats and rods will be cut into shorter lengths, resulting in 16 playing pieces that will be shaped by drilling and sanding. The game board and playing pieces will be finely sanded and oiled in the end.

The workshop will guide participants through the process of creating a simple product, involving cutting, drilling, basic joining techniques with gluing, shaping wood with rasping and sanding, and basic surface finishing.

About the mentor:

The workshop will be facilitated by Jaka Oman, head of Wood Lab.
