Brass or Copper Hair Clip
22. 10. 2026
In this workshop, we will make a unique hair clip from brass or copper, which can also be worn as a brooch on a coat, jacket or another piece of clothing.
The workshop is intended for anyone who would like to try working with metal, learn basic jewellery-making techniques and discover through hands-on work how a simple piece of metal can become a functional fashion accessory.
During the workshop, we will work with brass and/or copper. With the mentor’s guidance, you will get to know the entire making process step by step: from the initial idea and material preparation to the final finishing of the piece.
We will learn how to measure, prepare, cut, shape and adapt the metal to the function of a hair clip or brooch. We will also explore basic techniques of hammer-texturing metal, which give the surface a distinctive handmade look, as well as fire soldering, sanding and polishing.
Special attention will be given to understanding the material, using tools correctly and working safely with basic techniques used in handmade jewellery.
At the end of the workshop, you will take home your own unique piece of jewellery.
The workshop will take place on Thursday, 22 October 2026, from 17:00 to 20:00 in the Jewelry Lab.
No prior knowledge is required. All materials and tools needed for the workshop will be provided.
The programme will be held in Croatian, and can be partly adapted in English if needed.
About the mentor
The workshop will be led by Martina Tompić, jewellery designer and founder of the AYELEN brand. In her work, she focuses on handmade contemporary metal jewellery, exploring textures and traditional material-processing techniques. When working with participants, she pays special attention to understanding the making process, safe use of tools and developing a feel for the material.
She guides participants through each step of the process – from shaping the metal to the final finish – in a clear and accessible way, suitable also for complete beginners.
