Mending is better than ending (in English)

Discover the sustainable practices of Europe’s largest creative centre. Center Rog is one of Europe’s largest creative centres, offering a wide range of technologies, courses and unique experiences. Spur your creativity by attending a textile repair workshop in the heart of Ljubljana’s city centre.
One of Center Rog’s missions is to empower our users with the knowledge of mending and caring for their old clothes —those that are still beautiful and worth keeping, aside from minor flaws or damages. We are organizing a short clothing repair workshop, with a focus on shortening garments and replacing zippers.
What will we do in the workshop?
During the workshop, participants (basic knowledge of sewing and using a sewing machine is recommended) will learn how to:
- Replace zippers on textile items—whether short, long, separating, non-separating, hidden, etc. NOTE: Zippers can only be replaced on textile products. Unfortunately, zipper replacement on suitcases, briefcases, hard leather bags, footwear, etc., is not possible.
- Shorten sleeve length, pant legs, skirt length, etc. More complex alterations (such as shortening sleeves on coats or blazers, shortening coats with slits, etc.) require more time and skill. If you are unable to complete your repair during the workshop, you are welcome to continue working during open slots in the lab.
What should I bring?
Bring a garment on which you would like to shorten the length or replace a zipper. If you are a complete beginner, we recommend bringing no more than one item.
If you plan to replace a zipper, please bring a new zipper and matching thread (black and white threads are available in the lab). When purchasing a zipper, make sure to choose the correct type and length—consult with the shop assistant if needed (separating zippers are typically used for jackets and hoodies, hidden zippers for dresses and skirts, and more durable zippers for sports jackets and bags).
Join us and gain the skills to adapt or repair your clothes so they can serve you for many years to come.
Prior knowledge:
NO, prior knowledge is not required, but basic knowledge of sewing and using a sewing machine is recommended.
About the mentor:
Mark Cvelbar, mentor in the textile lab, specialising in performance and sports clothing and textile repairs.
***
The participants should gather 15 minutes before the start of the program in the entrance hall of Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers, which your mentor will show you. Do not be late for the program, as this disrupts the workflow. In case of tardiness, entry into the lab unfortunately cannot be guaranteed.
The program will be conducted in Slovenian, unless otherwise stated.
The program is intended for participants aged 14 and older, unless otherwise specified.
In case of cancellation, we will notify you two days before the planned start.
If you cannot attend the program, the fee is non-refundable and rescheduling is not possible. You may transfer your participation to another person, provided you notify us at least 24 hours in advance at tekstil@center-rog.si.
We look forward to your company and creative collaboration!
