Between March 5th and April 6th, Urban Magušar's original project, prepared in collaboration with numerous collaborators, will be on display in the large exhibition hall of the Center Rog. This project, "Catalog of Slovenian Clays," showcases various types of clay and clay pits in Slovenia. Alongside the exhibition, I'm organizing three experimental workshops, thematically related and offered as separate sessions. You are invited to participate in individual workshops or sign up for the entire series.

In the workshop "Basics of Processing Clay from Nature," scheduled for Monday, March 18th, we will:

  • Explore the fundamentals of the clay processing process.
  • Clean harvested clay and create test materials to understand the properties of different types of clay.
  • Learn about clays in various physical states: liquid, soft, dry, and fired, and their properties suitable for shaping.

This workshop is designed for designers from various fields interested in material exploration and eager to discover the potential of clay as a material/medium. The outcome of the workshop will be small experimental pieces, dried and fired at the Center Rog, available for participants to collect afterward.

About the workshop mentor:

Urban Magušar is an industrial designer, ceramic artist, potter, and educator. In addition to his original work, he has designed several series of functional ceramics produced in his workshop in Radovljica. He is the founder of the Magušar Pottery Workshop in the Fužine Mill and the Pottery Atelier in SEM, and the organizer of seven pottery festivals. He is the author of the "Master's Work Practice" project, organized within his association "Fabrika Fabijana" (a member of the EOA - European Outsider Art Association), aimed at populations with special needs and training mentors to work with clay. Over nearly fifty years of his professional work, he regularly lectures, exhibits, organizes workshops, exhibitions, and other professional events in the field of ceramics.

Participants should gather 5 minutes before the agreed-upon time in the entrance hall of Center Rog.

The workshop will be conducted with a minimum of 6 registrations. In case of non-implementation, you will be informed at least two days before the program begins.

Registration fees are non-refundable, and rescheduling is not possible. Participation can be transferred to another person, provided you notify us at least 24 hours before the start via email at: steklokeramika@center-rog.si.
