We are opening the autumn season in the Textile Lab with an advanced sewing course dedicated to making a winter coat — our most demanding and longest sewing course.

Together, we will make a classic made-to-measure coat: a high-quality piece that will keep you warm for several seasons and will be sewn entirely to your taste. The course will take you through the whole process, from adapting the basic pattern to carefully finishing the details.

With the mentors’ guidance, you will learn how to:

  • adapt a basic pattern,
  • cut materials,
  • make welt pockets with flaps, a lapel collar and a back vent,
  • insert the lining correctly,
  • finish details and prepare the coat for wearing.

At the end of the course, you will take home a professionally made classic winter coat, tailored to your measurements and sewn from the material of your choice.

Prior knowledge

The course is intended for participants with advanced sewing skills and basic pattern-making knowledge. It is suitable for those who have already attended previous sewing modules or who independently sew more demanding garments, such as shirts, jackets or similar pieces.

Materials

Materials are not included in the course fee. You will need:

  • main fabric: non-stretch wool suitable for coats, approximately twice the length of the coat + 50 cm; around 250–300 cm in total, depending on the desired coat length,
  • lining: stronger viscose lining, approximately sleeve length + coat length; around 200 cm,
  • buttons: to be agreed on at the first session,
  • thread: in a matching colour; black and white thread are available in the lab.

If you are unsure about choosing the right material, visit the Textile Lab before the course, where we can advise you and show you suitable samples.

Schedule

The programme will take place over eight sessions:

  • Wednesday, 7 October 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00
  • Thursday, 8 October 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00
  • Wednesday, 14 October 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00
  • Thursday, 15 October 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00
  • Wednesday, 21 October 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00
  • Thursday, 22 October 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00
  • Wednesday, 28 October 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00
  • Thursday, 29 October 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00

The course counts as training for the sewing station. After completing the course, you will be able to use the relevant workstation independently, in accordance with the lab rules.

About the mentors

The course will be led by Karmen Gombač, fashion designer, expert in pattern cutting, sewing and various textile techniques and technologies, and Mark Cvelbar, Textile Lab mentor, fashion designer and specialist in technical materials and patterns.

***
Participants should gather in the entrance hall of Center Rog 15 minutes before the programme begins. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers indicated by the mentor. Do not be late, as this disrupts the working process. In case of late arrival, entry to the lab cannot be guaranteed.

The programme is held in Slovenian unless stated otherwise.

In case of cancellation, you will be notified two days before the planned start of the programme.

If you are unable to attend the programme, the fee is non-refundable and the date cannot be changed. You may transfer your place to another person by notifying us at least 24 hours before the start at tekstil@center-rog.si.

We look forward to your company and creating together
