Accompanying Program for the Exhibition Heritage of the Future by the MADE IN Platform

The exhibition Heritage of the Future presents the results of a two-year collaboration between designers, artisans, scientists, and other experts connected through the MADE IN platform for contemporary crafts and design. Alongside the exhibition, we have prepared a rich accompanying program featuring guided tours and creative workshops. The exhibition will conclude in September with two seminars and an international conference.
Accompanying Program in July and August:
- July 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM – Guided tour of the Heritage of the Future exhibition at Center Rog with the exhibition curator Maja Kolar and designer Sanja Rotter. (registration)
- July 21, 2025, at 5:00 PM and 6:30 PM – Intergenerational ceramic decoration workshop using the sgraffito technique (registration required – Group 1, Group 2)
Discover the sgraffito technique – a special decoration method used in both ceramics and wall paintings. The name comes from the Italian word sgraffiare, meaning “to scratch.”
The workshop will be led by Barbara Gogala, mentor at the ceramics lab. - August 7, 2025, at 5:00 PM – Adults’ workshop: Forged Earrings (registration)
Create metal earrings, further decorated with forging techniques. Learn the basics of sawing, filing, and polishing metal and explore how metal behaves when textured with different hammers.
The workshop will be led by Metka Mikuletič, head of the jewelry lab, and Peter Dragolič, mentor at the jewelry lab. - August 20, 2025, at 5:00 PM – Lathe training in the woodworking lab (registration)
Learn how to properly and safely turn solid wood on a lathe. Understand how to prepare material for turning, set up various parts of the lathe correctly, and securely clamp material in multiple ways.
Training will be led by Jaka Oman, head of the wood lab. - August 28, 2025, at 5:00 PM – Intergenerational marquetry workshop (registration)
Under the guidance of a mentor, step-by-step create your unique wood marquetry piece—whether an abstract pattern, a symbol with a personal touch, or a simple picture of your choice.
The workshop will be led by Gal Žvab, mentor in the woodworking lab. - September 4, 2025, at 5:00 PM – Demonstration of wild clay processing (registration)

Upcoming Events: - September 4, 2025: Materials in Contemporary Design Practice – Two Seminars
At two seminars held at Center Rog focusing on metals and natural materials, we will present six best practices of local design. Special emphasis will be placed on innovative approaches that give materials a new role within the design context. - September 5, 2025: Closing Conference of the MADE IN Platform
At the closing conference titled Heritage of the Future, we will invite guests from the fields of design, art, and science to discuss the future of materials, the importance of local and craft knowledge, and design as a medium between research, experimentation, and social impact.
