How are new spaces for culture and creativity created, who creates them, and who uses them? You are invited to Plečnik's kiosk on Vegova Street, on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 6 PM for the third meeting of the School of the City in the City.

We will discuss examples from all over Slovenia, differing in size, ownership, program, and the groups that use these spaces. We will talk about successes, mistakes, and lessons for the future.

Center Rog, as a creative hub with community workshops and studios for professional creators, fills an important gap in the fields of design, architecture, engineering, and applied arts in Ljubljana and beyond. With its openness (both programmatically and spatially), it has become one of the most unclassified spaces in terms of audience diversity. The Radovljica Library has succeeded through innovative program combinations, becoming the library with the highest proportion of registered members in Slovenia. Members of the initiative Where is the space? have managed, with enthusiasm and by building strong connections between the municipality, owners, and local creators, to revitalize empty shops in the historical center of Slovenj Gradec, developing a model that has been replicated in other Slovenian towns. Meanwhile, in Celje, a new creative and cultural center is emerging, where the participatory process has allowed future users to articulate their needs and shared vision already in the project phase.

The program was designed by architect Alenka Korenjak (Prostorož), selector of the Local Interventions category for the Outsider Award, and sociologist Zala Velkavrh (Prostorož).

Participants: Anja Šuler (Where is the space?), Marko Zupanc (Radovljica Library), Renata Zamida (Center Rog), Alenka Korenjak (Prostorož)

Moderator: Zala Velkavrh

You are invited to the discussion on creative spaces of the future!

Participation is free. The event is organized by Outsider, the magazine and web portal on culture and society, and the Cultural Society Prostorož.
