Become a Volunteer and Help with the Care of the Park izbrisanih

We invite all those with "green fingers" to join our team of volunteers and become a caretaker of the Park izbrisanih, a green oasis covering nearly 8,000 m² in front of Center Rog.

Part of the park is designed as an orchard featuring native Slovenian fruit trees, such as cherries, apples, pears, kaki, plums, peaches, and more. The fruit trees are surrounded by a meadow that is mowed only twice a year, providing food for various pollinators, including the bees living on the roof of Center Rog, where we have two beehives. In another section of the park, different trees with edible parts are planted, including black and white mulberry, wild pear and apple, walnut, linden, and others. This area also features a regularly mowed lawn and includes an educational garden with 24 raised beds for growing vegetables and learning urban gardening practices. Along the wall, we have climbing plants ranging from grapevines to kiwi.

• What Will the Work as a Caretaker of the Park izbrisanih Involve?

As a park caretaker, your tasks will include removing grass around trees, mulching, caring for park trees, fertilizing the lawn, and other activities to ensure the park remains beautiful, well-maintained, and functional. We will work according to the seasons and the needs of the plants and insects living in the park. Occasionally, we will invite experts from various fields, from tree caretakers to pruning specialists, pollinator experts, and urban plant enthusiasts, to share their knowledge and experience with us.

• Who Can Join?

We welcome anyone aged 15 and older who is interested in horticulture, environmental conservation, or simply wants to spend time in nature and help maintain green spaces in an urban environment. Individuals, families, retirees, students, and anyone passionate about green spaces are all encouraged to join us.

• What Do I Get as a Volunteer?

Volunteers will sign a one-year volunteer agreement starting from the date of joining the program. As a caretaker of the Park izbrisanih, you will be entitled to transportation compensation for regular participation and a one-year free membership to Center Rog, which offers numerous benefits.

You can join the team of caretakers throughout the year. Our first meeting will be on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 5:30 PM. At this initial gathering, we will discuss the work schedule and set the approximate dates for our monthly meetings. We will also start working and getting to know the park!
