A Creative Summer at Center Rog for Children and Young People

Mornings were filled with hands-on making, contemporary technologies and programming, animation, material exploration, cooking and plenty of opportunities to discover new knowledge and skills together.

Children made table football games and Nerdy Derby cars, bent metal, stamped pendants and experimented with cyanotype. During a visit to the UNICUM exhibition, they discovered contemporary ceramics and then made their own clay cups, as well as puzzles and phenakistoscopes.

When they were not creating in the labs, they cooked tortillas, explored an invisible world under the microscope, played in the Park of the Erased and went on a trip to Ljubljana’s Castle Hill. Their microscopic discoveries also took on a new form: in the Textile Lab, children created cushions featuring imaginary microscopic creatures, which will be presented at the RogExpo exhibition at the end of November.

The Wood Lab also hosted a woodworking course for children and young people. Participants learned how to use real woodworking tools and tried their hand at measuring, sawing, sanding, screwing and assembling. They completed the course with tangible results of their work: a toolbox, an insect hotel, a stool and a coat rack.

A total of 238 young makers took part in this summer’s programmes. Thank you to all the children and young people, as well as the mentors who created with us this summer. We will meet again at our Saturday workshops throughout the year – and, of course, during the next school holidays!
