What can we learn from our ancestors?

This year's RogForum will focus on the heritage of our ancestors. Why? We live in times of rapid and turbulent changes, felt all over the world and also in our own local surroundings. The question we ask ourselves is whether we still have the right skills and capacities to cope with these changes. It might be a good idea to pause for a moment and consider whether the values and experiences of our ancestors can help us. Not looking nostalgically to the past, but using them to draw wisdom for the future.

Our guests will show how designers are interweaving traditional concepts, materials and values in innovative ways to develop contemporary solutions that respect natural ecosystems and support regenerative practices. Colleagues from similar organisations shall also share their experiences and methods to encourage creators who are inspired by the past in their quest for a more sustainable and just future.

In addition to six panels, where there will be ample opportunities for networking and exchanges with the audience, the Forum will also offer two expert working groups. These groups will warmly welcome anyone interested in involving children in the design of public spaces or in establishing ongoing residential exchanges with organisations that share our values of environmental protection and social justice.

Super Early Bird registration is now open and it includes discounted accommodation and lunch on both days of the Forum. The participation at the Forum is free of charge.

HOW TO BECOME A GOOD ANCESTOR – DESIGNING FOR TOMORROW

Designers and brands are increasingly incorporating recycled materials into versatile and environmentally friendly products, combining style with sustainability. Advances in recycling technology, together with the renewal of old techniques, offer new solutions for a more sustainable and fairer future.

This panel will explore how recycling is changing the way different communities view beauty, sustainability and social responsibility. We shall take a stroll through at a range of subjects, from innovative recycling methods that have evolved out of necessity and economic resilience to the rise of eco-conscious design movements.

We will also consider the importance of decolonising our approach to design and use of resources. By valuing past knowledge, promoting fairness and ensuring global benefits of sustainable local practices, we can create a more inclusive future.

We will also ask key questions: What strategies will reduce inequalities and ensure social justice for future generations? Is the right path government economic policy or innovative education programmes that emphasise sustainability, ethics and long-term thinking?
