Selina and Justine Latour

We are Selina and Justine Latour—Canadian twin sisters and collaborators working at the intersection of textiles, sustainable design, and community arts. Though based in London and Lisbon, our practices remain closely connected through a shared interest in fibre techniques and participatory making. During our 2019 residency at Buinho Creative Hub in Portugal, we launched Burnt Design, a wearable art brand exploring images of sisterhood. Since then, our work has evolved toward upcycling, embroidery, and facilitating textile-based workshops. Our residency project reimagines the concept of the “woven loop”—a seamless 6–8 frame animation commonly used in digital media—as a tactile textile language. Using upcycled materials and digital fabrication tools at Center Rog, we will create looped animations through embroidery, and textile printing techniques. These loops will be integrated into garments—pockets, patches, or subtle embellishments that suggest motion, continuity, and repair. Central to our project is a public programme that invites participants to co-create a looped animation through hand embroidery. Drawing inspiration from both Slovenian textile traditions and global handcrafts, our workshops foster exchange and collective creativity. Our collaboration reflects a belief that textiles can connect people—threading together handwork, heritage and geographies.

At residency from March 31st to April 30th 2025.
