Introductory Biomaterials Course
29. 10. 2025

Biomaterials, with their unique properties at the intersection of nature and technology, offer solutions to many of tomorrow’s challenges – from sustainable development to medical applications and circular economy concepts. Come to Center Rog and explore the world of these remarkable materials!
In this course, you will gain basic knowledge about their origin, processing, and use in designing final products. We will cover the full development path – from simple to more complex processes. You will learn about different sources and raw materials, the principles of production, and potential applications.
We will explore bioplastics in various forms – from films, foams, and meshes to more rigid composites – and learn how to process them with machines. The course will conclude with the exploration of natural pigments, which we will use as dyes or as components in natural coatings.
Course program:
- Session 1: Introduction to biomaterials, exploring sources and basic production processes
- Session 2: Bioplastic development – from films to harder forms, testing properties
- Session 3: Manufacturing and processing rigid biocomposites
- Session 4: Exploring natural pigments and their use as dyes and coatings
Prerequisites:
No prior knowledge required.
