As part of the accompanying programme of the Slovenian Jewelry Week 2026, we will host Italian art historian and independent contemporary jewellery curator Nichka Marobin, a member of the SIJW 2026 jury.

In her lecture, she will explore the role of the curator in today’s cultural landscape and present various approaches and reflections that currently shape curatorial practice. She will use the Schmuck 2026 project as a case study to highlight the opportunities and challenges of curating contemporary jewellery in an international context, also showcasing a selection of participating artists.

Biography

Nichka Marobin is an Italian art historian specializing in Dutch and Flemish art. She graduated from the University of Padua, where her thesis focused on Renaissance ornamental graphics (1500–1550) in Germany and the Low Countries.

In 2011, she founded the online magazine The Morning Bark, dedicated to art and the humanities. In 2014, she launched the project Les Métissages, exploring the dialogue between contemporary jewellery and fashion. Since 2015, she has worked as an independent curator, organizing exhibitions in Barcelona (JOYA Barcelona, Museu del Modernisme, Hannah Gallery).

She collaborates with KLIMT02 and the Art Jewellery Forum, serves as AJF ambassador in Italy, and is a member of AGC. She also founded The Blue Room – Hub for Brilliant Conversations, a curatorial space dedicated to art and dialogue with artists.

The event is part of the accompanying programme of the 5th Slovenian Jewelry Week 2026.
