Introduction to Jewelry Enameling Techniques

In this course, you will learn the basic steps of enameling, discover the unique properties of enamel, and gain insight into combining metal and glass in contemporary jewelry making.

During the first session, we will prepare metal bases in organic shapes for earrings using sawing, filing, and sanding techniques. In the second session, we will enhance the jewelry by applying enamel – a glass powder that, when heated, creates a shiny and durable surface. You will learn how to prepare and correctly apply enamel. Each piece of jewelry will receive up to seven layers of enamel for added depth and color intensity. Silver leaf will also be used to give each piece a unique character.

Mentors:

The first session – earring making – will be led by the Jewelry Lab mentors. The enameling process in the second session will be led by Maja Orehar, a graduate economist who, after twenty years in the business world, embarked on an independent design path. She further trained in porcelain product making and completed the Tine Mežek School of Goldsmithing. Her passion is colorful enameled jewelry, where she enjoys exploring and combining different techniques and materials. Her work is characterized by lace-like structures, vibrant colors, and subtle contrasts, creating recognizable and unique pieces.

Participants should gather 15 minutes before the scheduled start in the entrance hall of Center Rog. Please store personal belongings in the lockers shown by the mentor. Do not be late, as this disrupts the workflow. Entry to the lab cannot be guaranteed in case of delay.

The program is conducted in Slovenian unless otherwise stated.

In case of cancellation, we will inform you at least two days before the scheduled start.

If you cannot attend, fees are non-refundable and rescheduling is not possible. Participation can be transferred to another person if notified at least 24 hours before the start via email: nakit@center-rog.si.
