Sewing Course: Elastic-Waist Shorts

For beginners who would like to sew their first piece of clothing – Center Rog is once again organising a beginner sewing course.

In this three-day course, you will learn the basics of sewing on an industrial sewing machine and make a pair of elastic-waist shorts: a useful summer garment through which you will learn all the key steps, from pattern to finished piece.

You will learn how to adjust a simple pattern to your measurements, how to place pattern pieces correctly on fabric, cut them out, prepare them and sew them together. We will also show you small sewing tricks that will come in handy in future projects: how to stabilise the presser foot on the sewing machine, press edges more easily, and assemble and sew pattern pieces more precisely.

At the end of the course, you will take home your own elastic-waist shorts and enough basic knowledge to approach your next sewing project with more confidence.

Fabric

The fabric is included in the price. The Textile Lab will provide several fabrics suitable for making shorts: turquoise linen, dark blue denim and light pink cotton.

You can also bring your own fabric if you wish. We recommend natural materials that are not slippery or stretchy, as they are easier to sew and more comfortable to wear. Please wash the fabric before the course, as it may shrink during the first wash.

3 sessions, 4 hours each:

• Thursday, 20 August, 16:00–20:00
• Friday, 21 August, 16:00–20:00

Prior knowledge

No prior knowledge is required. The course is intended for beginners and anyone sewing clothes for the first time.

Does the course count as training?

Yes. By attending the course, you will also complete the training for the sewing station.

About the mentors

The course is led by Uroš Topić and Mark Cvelbar, mentors at Center Rog’s Textile Lab. They introduce participants to the safe and independent use of sewing machines and help them understand the process from pattern to finished garment. Their approach is practical, precise and patient – just the right combination for taking your first steps in sewing.

Participants meet 15 minutes before the start of the programme in the entrance hall of Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers indicated by the mentors. Do not be late, as this disrupts the working process. In case of late arrival, we unfortunately cannot guarantee entry to the lab.

The programme is held in Slovenian, unless stated otherwise.

The programme is intended for participants over the age of 14, unless stated otherwise.

In case of cancellation, we will notify you two days before the planned start.

If you are unable to attend the programme, the fee is non-refundable, and the date cannot be changed. You may transfer your participation to another person, provided you notify us at least 24 hours before the start at tekstil@center-rog.si.
