The wooden hand plane is one of the fundamental tools of every carpenter, with a long tradition of use and craftsmanship. In a time dominated by machine processing, knowledge of handcrafting such a tool is rare and therefore even more valuable.

The course in the wood lab will be truly something special, as we will have a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about the construction and operation of the hand plane and to master the techniques that carpenters have been using for centuries to make their own tools.

During the course, under expert guidance, we will craft a fully functional wooden hand plane. We will leave not only with a hand plane that we have made ourselves, but also with an understanding of how it works.

1st session:
In the first session, we will present the purpose, function, and basic structure of the wooden hand plane, review the plans, components, and necessary tools, and select suitable wood such as beech, ash, or oak. We will then cut the basic wooden parts, including the sides, the central body, and the wedge.

2nd session:
During the second session, we will saw the blade bed at an angle and prepare the parts for gluing, while also crafting and adjusting the wooden wedge for securing the blade.

3rd session:
In the third session, we will align the sole, adjust the blade mouth, and cut the final shape using a band saw and edge sander. This will be followed by oiling and surface protection, inserting the blade, adjusting and testing its operation, and concluding with tips and a presentation of the finished hand planes.
