Lecture by Justin Prim: The beauty, value and power of gemstone cutting

You are invited to a lecture organised as part of the Slovenian Jewelry Week SIJW 2025.

The talk will be about the importance of gemstone cutting, what tools were used in the past, why quality cutting is so important and how it affects the market and the price of the final product.

The lecture will be given by Justin Prim, an internationally renowned gemologist and master gem cutter. He is American by birth, but worked for many years in Bangkok, where he had his own gem cutting academy, before moving to Lyon, France, a few years ago, where he continues to hone his skills and contribute to the global gemstone community.

Justin's expertise is reflected in the transformation of rough gemstones into exquisite works of art that reveal their natural beauty through precise cutting and thoughtful shaping. His work often highlights the unique qualities of a particular stone, whether the vibrant hues of sapphires, the enchanting depth of tourmalines or the brilliance of other rare gems. His dedication to quality and artistry has earned him a reputation among collectors, jewellers and gemstone enthusiasts worldwide.

In addition to his technical expertise, Justin is also known for his commitment to education and knowledge sharing within the industry. He has participated in numerous exhibitions, workshops and lectures, further cementing his status. He is considered one of the most recognisable personalities in the gemstone cutting industry.
