Glass Design Over Flame

The technique of shaping glass over a flame, also known as lampworking or flameworking, is a process in which glass rods are heated over an open flame. When the glass becomes hot enough, it softens and can be shaped to create various objects – from small glass beads and figurines to decorative ornaments.

The workshop will be held in collaboration with the School centre Rogaška Slatina and will include demonstrations by students showing the creation of more complex shapes. You will also try the technique yourself – learning how to use a torch, apply a separator, gather glass, and create basic forms. You will also learn the basics of grinding, engraving, and sandblasting glass.

In parallel, in the jewelry lab, wire findings for pendants, earrings, or bracelets will be prepared, where you will learn wire bending and attachment to make your glass creations ready to wear or gift.

About the mentors

The workshop will be led by Zinka K. Kobula, a practical glass techniques instructor at Šolski center Rogaška Slatina, along with the students of the program.

The project is funded by the Ministry of Economy, Tourism, and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia.

Participants should gather 15 minutes before the scheduled start in the entrance hall of Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers shown by the mentor. Do not be late, as this disrupts the workflow. Entry to the lab cannot be guaranteed in case of delay.

The program is conducted in Slovenian unless otherwise stated.

In case of cancellation, we will inform you at least two days before the scheduled start.

If you cannot attend, fees are non-refundable and rescheduling is not possible. You may transfer your participation to another person if you inform us at least 24 hours before the start at steklokeramika@center-rog.si.
