Modelling Circle: the world in small (in modules)

Model building is a pastime activity where we aim to create a highly accurate miniature version of a real object, person, scene, or event from various materials. Achieving a high-quality model requires significant experience and knowledge, making it crucial for beginners to first familiarize themselves with the basics.

A year-long workshop, structured into modules (9 modules), is designed for children who are beginners and wish to enter the world of model building. Participants can choose to attend and register for individual modules. In each module, attendees will build models tailored to their skill levels, starting with the Easy Assembly Kit. By attending multiple consecutive modules, they can gradually progress to more advanced and diverse models. Progress requires a lot of practice, patience, and precision, which makes the saying "practice makes perfect" particularly true in model building.

At the beginning of each module, participants will learn the basics of preparation, including time planning, setting up a workspace, and gathering the necessary tools. This will be followed by reading the blueprint and understanding the required steps to assemble the model. Under the expert guidance of mentors from the World in Miniature association, participants will assemble and glue individual pieces step by step to create a complete model. After completing the framework, the next steps will include filling and sanding, which are preparatory steps for finishing the model and painting its components. When it comes to painting, participants can either follow a reference image or unleash their creativity to create their own color combinations and patterns. The final step in completing the model is adding decals, which make the model even more attractive.

We invite anyone interested in creating miniature models of airplanes, helicopters, cars, and other objects. The workshop is designed for children aged 10 and older.

Each completed model will be kept by the participants and taken home.

Fee: There is no participation fee. Before each module begins, participants will need to reimburse the association for the material cost of the kit provided for that module (approximately €10–€25, depending on the product).

About the Mentors:

Aleš Vovk has been involved in model building for 45 years. He is a member of the Association for Promoting Creativity – World in Miniature (Društvo za vzpodbujanje kreativnosti Svet v malem), which also promotes model building among young people.

The World in Miniature association (Društvo Svet v malem) brings together various hobbies such as model building, miniature railways, modeling, and LEGO, with a special emphasis on model building. They strive to attract new, younger members and are planning to open a club space where members can socialize and build models together. The association actively participates in various exhibitions and competitions across Europe.
