Inorganic and Organic Materials in Combination with Clay, Workshop with Urban Magušar
21. 3. 2024
Between March 5th and April 6th, Urban Magušar's original project, the "Catalog of Slovenian Clays," will be on display in the large exhibition hall of the Center Rog. Alongside the exhibition, which showcases various types of clay and clay pits in Slovenia, I am organizing three experimental workshops, thematically related but offered as separate sessions. You are invited to participate in individual workshops or sign up for the entire series.
In the workshop "Clay: Inorganic and Organic Materials" on Thursday, March 21st, we will:
- Explore three levels of combinations of inorganic and organic materials in connection with construction (for example, using clay-coated cooking baskets to retain water), structure (incorporating organic materials into clay, such as sawdust, which makes the mass more porous after firing), and composite (using ash glazes, for instance).
- Shape "meta objects" from clay and rocks with the help of various inorganic materials.
This workshop is intended for designers from various fields who are interested in exploring materials and want to learn about the many possibilities that clay as a material/medium offers.
The result of the workshop will be small experimental pieces, which will be dried and fired at the Center Rog, and participants will be able to collect them later.
About the workshop mentor:
Urban Magušar is an industrial designer, ceramic artist, potter, and educator. In addition to his original work, he has designed several series of functional ceramics, which he also produces in his workshop in Radovljica. He is the founder of the Magušar Pottery Workshop in the Fužine Mill and the Ceramics Studio at SEM, as well as the organizer of seven pottery festivals. He is the author of the "Master's Practice Exercise" project, organized within his association "Fabrika Fabijana" (member of EOA - European Outsider Art Association), aimed at people with special needs and training mentors for clay work. Over his nearly fifty years of professional work, he regularly lectures, exhibits, organizes workshops, exhibitions, and other professional events in the field of ceramics.
Participants should gather 5 minutes before the scheduled time in the entrance hall of Center Rog.
The workshop will be conducted with a minimum of 6 registrations. In case of non-execution, you will be informed no later than two days before the start of the program.
Fees are non-refundable, and it is also not possible to change the date. Participation can be transferred to another person; please inform us at least 24 hours before the start via email at steklokeramika@center-rog.si.
