Beginner Carpentry Course with a Finished Solid Wood Product

Why search for unique and high-quality solid wood furniture in stores? Come to Center Rog and learn how to make it yourself!
In this course, we will learn how to craft a traditional Slovenian cradle or chair from solid wood. You will learn how to choose the right wood and shape a piece of furniture. We will introduce you to various machine and hand tools as well as other equipment used in a carpentry workshop. You will design your unique piece of furniture using various processes such as sawing, planing, and sanding. Finally, you will learn how to make wax to finish your product, which you can also paint if desired.
ALL MATERIALS ARE INCLUDED IN THE PRICE.
Over the course of eight sessions, we will learn:
1st session:
- General rules for working in a woodworking workshop and safety at work.
- Introduction to hand and power tools: purpose and use, safety precautions, operation, and procedures.
- Introduction to machines: purpose and use, safety precautions, operation, and procedures.
2nd session:
- Introduction to machines: purpose and use, safety precautions, operation, and procedures.
3rd session:
- Introduction to wood and its properties.
- Beginning product design.
4th session:
- Product design and beginning wood preparation (sawing, flattening, and thicknessing).
5th session:
- Wood preparation.
- Gluing and beginning wood sanding.
6th session:
- Product creation.
7th session:
- Product creation.
8th session:
- Finalizing, assembling, and surface finishing (painting and oiling).
Everyone interested in woodworking, design, and crafting practical wooden products is welcome. The program is designed for individuals aged 14 and older.

Prerequisites:
NO, prior knowledge is not required.
Does the workshop count as training?
YES, by attending the course, you will complete training for the workstations with woodworking machines. In the future, you will be able to use these workstations independently during open hours.
About the mentors:
Jaka Oman – An industrial designer by education with years of experience in carpentry workshops. He has extensive experience in custom furniture making, from planning to installation. He is skilled in general solid wood processing and enjoys experimenting with other techniques and materials.
Primož Dolničar has been working with solid wood design for 30 years. His unique creations have furnished numerous restaurants and private homes. He has an exceptional sense for wood and its shaping, and his wealth of experience ensures the correct processing and design of solid wood, making his products timeless.

Participants gather 15 minutes before the scheduled time in the entrance hall of Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers shown to you by the mentor.
Do not arrive late, as this disrupts the workflow. In case of delay, we cannot guarantee entry into the lab.
The program is conducted in Slovenian unless otherwise noted.
In case of cancellation, we will notify you two days before the scheduled start date.
If you cannot attend the program, fees are non-refundable, and rescheduling is not possible. You may transfer your participation to another person, but please notify us at least 24 hours before the program starts at les@center-rog.si.
