Beginner 3D Course "From Idea to Prototype"
20. 12. 2024
Are you full of ideas for innovative products but unsure how to transform them into your first prototype? Join our course at FabLab and, together with other creatives, designers, and makers, turn your ideas into tangible products.
During the course, you will learn about various digital fabrication processes, technologies, and tools that simplify prototyping and the creation of final products. You will also learn how to operate digital fabrication machines such as 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC PCB machines, and basic electronics.
The course follows the Project-Based Learning pedagogical methodology, where individual techniques will be introduced through lectures and hands-on practice. Newly acquired skills will be reinforced immediately, ensuring every participant can develop and create a personalized product.
The skills will be introduced progressively and cumulatively. By the end of the course, you will understand various digital fabrication processes and technologies, know how to use tools that facilitate project development, and gain practical knowledge of operating digital fabrication machines.
Join us to develop your technical skills through practical projects that will take you from the basics to a finished product!
Suitable for participants aged 14 and older. All materials are included in the price!
Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from October 28 to December 20, from 5 PM to 8 PM.
In the 3-month course, we will learn:
- Session 1: Introduction: Getting to know the digital fabrication system and all that comes with it (open-source projects, digital fabrication, DIY, etc.).
- Sessions 2 and 3: CAD software for 3D modeling.
- Sessions 4 to 7:
- 3D Printers: How they work, how to use them, and how to develop projects using 3D printing technology.
- Sessions 8 to 11:
- Laser Cutter: How to operate it, how to use it, and how to develop projects for the laser cutter.
- Sessions 12 to 16:
- Electronics: You will create an electronic project, design a simplified printed circuit board (PCB), and learn programming for basic automation.
- Sessions 17 to 20:
- Final Project Development: Each participant will develop their concept for a final product, design it, and create a prototype incorporating at least three of the technologies covered in the course.
Prior knowledge:
NO, prior knowledge is not required.
Does the course qualify as training?
YES, by attending the course, you will complete training for the laser cutter, electronics station, and 3D printer. You will then be able to use these workstations independently during open hours.
About the mentors:
The course will be led by FabLab mentors.
*Basic materials will be provided during the course. If specific materials are required, you will need to bring them yourself.
*Each participant must have their own computer.
*Software used in the course: Inkscape, Onshape, Meshmixer, Prusa Slicer, Arduino IDE (all software is open-source/free to use).
*The course will be conducted in Slovenian and English.

Participants should gather 15 minutes before the scheduled time in the main lobby of Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers provided by the mentor. Do not be late, as this disrupts the working process. In case of delay, we cannot guarantee lab entry.
If the course is canceled, you will be informed two days before the planned start.
If you are unable to attend, fees are non-refundable, and rescheduling is not possible. However, you may transfer your participation to another person. Please notify us at least 24 hours before the program starts at fablab@center-rog.si.
We look forward to your company and collaborative creation!
