Electronics for Creatives is an eight-week hands-on course for designers, artists, architects, engineers, makers and other creatives who want to integrate electronics, interactivity, movement, light or responsive systems into their work.

Rather than approaching electronics mainly from an engineering perspective, the course introduces electronics as a creative medium. We will explore how microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, LEDs, motors and basic programming can transform static objects into interactive experiences, installations, products and prototypes.

The programme is intended for anyone developing physical products, spatial installations, artworks or prototypes, and wishing to expand their work with responsiveness, automation or electronic components. Product designers can use these skills to prototype connected or interactive products; artists can create responsive installations; architects and exhibition designers can integrate lighting, sensing and automation into spatial experiences; and makers can develop functional prototypes for startups or clients.

Through practical exercises, we will explore the fundamentals of electronics and creative coding, connect sensors and actuators, control light, sound and movement, and learn the basic principles of automation. Each concept will be immediately applied through small experiments and personal projects.

As the course progresses, participants will develop their own interactive prototype with the support of FabLab mentors. The programme also introduces the basics of custom PCB design, offering an overview of the complete workflow from concept to a functional electronic prototype.

Schedule

The programme will take place over eight sessions:

  • Monday, 5 October 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00 — Introduction to Electronics and Components
  • Monday, 12 October 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00 — Basic Programming with Microcontrollers
  • Monday, 19 October 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00 — Guided Prototyping and Ideation
  • Monday, 26 October 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00 — Advanced Interaction and User Input
  • Monday, 2 November 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00 — PCB Design and Fabrication
  • Monday, 9 November 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00 — Advanced Programming
  • Monday, 16 November 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00 — Project Development
  • Monday, 30 November 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00 — Final Project Development and Presentation

There will be no session on 23 November due to Rog Design Days.

No prior knowledge is required, although the course is especially suitable for creatives interested in expanding physical projects with electronics and interactivity.

The course counts as training for the electronics station and PCB CNC. After completing the course, you will be able to use the relevant workstations independently, in accordance with the lab rules.

About the mentors

The course will be led by Tauan Bernardo, Bart Smits and Grega Matijan, mentors of the FabLab.

Participants should gather in the entrance hall of Center Rog 15 minutes before the programme begins. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers indicated by the mentor. Do not be late, as this disrupts the working process. In case of late arrival, entry to the lab cannot be guaranteed.

The programme is held in English.

In case of cancellation, you will be notified two days before the planned start of the programme.

If you are unable to attend the programme, the fee is non-refundable and the date cannot be changed. You may transfer your place to another person by notifying us at least 24 hours before the start at fablab@center-rog.si.
